Award-Winning Film Composer, Sound Designer, Musician and Educator
Dennis Burke is a dual Canadian/American film music composer, musician, and educator recognised for his unique compositional style, eclectic influences and adventurous instrumentations.
His earliest interest in music began with listening to 1960’s radio and his family’s small but diverse record collection. This quickly grew into an infatuation with playing the drums
Eventually his interests expanded to writing music, first for modern dance, concerts, and theatre productions and by the late 80’s was introduced to music for film and TV. To date he has over 130 films and TV programs to his credit as music composer and/or sound designer. Along with extensive international theatrical and film festival screenings his work can be heard regularly on television throughout North America, Europe, and Asia with many of his films recognized with major national and international awards. Over the years Dennis has also created a number of gallery-based works both solo and in collaboration with celebrated visual artists such as David Rimmer, Stan Douglas, and Landon Mackenzie.
By the late 80’s Dennis added teaching as a major interest and for the last 35 years has worked as a full time Professor, Associate Dean, and guest lecturer for a number of universities in Canada, the USA, as well as guest speaker positions internationally.
